TaxSlayer vs TurboTax: Which One I Should Use?

I'm trying to choose between TaxSlayer and TurboTax for filing my taxes this year, and I'd appreciate insights from anyone who's used both.

My tax situation is pretty simple I'm single with W-2 income and take the standard deduction but I still want to ensure I get the most accurate return possible. I've heard that different platforms might calculate refunds and owed taxes differently, which makes me curious:
How do their pricing ease of use and available features compare
How do the two platforms differ when it comes to fees, user-friendliness, and feature offerings?

I used both last year just to compare. The refund was exactly the same but TurboTax charged me more for the same forms. TaxSlayer is just as accurate but doesn’t have as many annoying upsells.

I’ve used TurboTax for the past couple of years and love how straightforward it is

But lately I’ve been hearing a lot about TaxSlayer. Is it really cheaper or better for more complex returns?

I’ve used both and found TurboTax to be really helpful for step-by-step guidance. once you add more complex forms like a Schedule C for freelance income the price can jump quickly.

TaxSlayer generally stays cheaper especially if you qualify for its free or classic editions.

I’m always skeptical about anything labeled “free.”

There’s almost always some hidden fee. Does TaxSlayer really stay free if you need a state return or have certain forms?

I went with TurboTax Deluxe this year for the additional forms and while it worked fine
I can’t help feeling like i might’ve paid more than necessary.

I used TaxSlayer’s free version last year and it covered both federal and state for me but my situation was really simple

If your return’s more complex than just a W-2 you might need to upgrade

I have a small Etsy shop which means I get a 1099-K form.

TaxSlayer handled it without any fuss whereas TurboTax kept nudging me to upgrade for extra help i didn’t actually need so TaxSlayer turned out cheaper overall.

The ideal fix would be relocating to some distant beach and acting like taxes aren’t a thing… though that’s probably not very realistic.

our situation sounds just like mine. I used TurboTax for years but switched to TaxSlayer last year and honestly... i don’t miss the flashy stuff. It was simple, quick and saved me about $40.

Been there. First time filing on my own, i was super anxious about getting everything right. TurboTax helped walk me through it with confidence. Worth the extra $ for peace of mind imo.

Used both. TurboTax is sleeker, more polished and holds your hand the whole way, but u pay for that experience. TaxSlayer is cheaper, no frills, and gets the job done. If u don’t mind fewer animations and more dropdowns go TaxSlayer.

I’ve used both. TurboTax is super user-friendly, like it holds your hand through every step. TaxSlayer feels more DIY which is fine if u r comfortable with tax lingo. If your return is basic TaxSlayer will save you a few bucks.
