Does Credit Repair Work in California?

I recently checked my credit score and realized it’s not high enough to qualify for the loan I want. I know some of the negative marks on my report may be incorrect, but disputing them seems like a hassle.

I’ve seen a lot of ads for credit repair companies in California, but I’m not sure if they really work or if I should just do it myself. Also, does anyone know how long credit repair takes and if these services actually follow California’s credit laws?

Would love to hear from anyone who has successfully repaired their credit in California!

If those negative marks are errors disputing them yourself is totally doable and free and just submit disputes to the credit bureaus online!
credit repair companies can help but they mostly do what you can do yourself.

Disputing errors yourself isnt as hard as it seems but if you go with a credit repair service in California so make sure they follow the Credit Repair Organizations Act
results can take a few months, depending on the issues.

Yeah they can work but only if u r dealing with legit companies. A lot of them just charge to do what you could do yourself for free. i used Lexington Law years ago but honestly, calling the bureaus and writing letters myself worked better.

I disputed a bunch of stuff myself using Credit Karma’s free dispute feature. Got two collections removed in 45 days. Didn’t pay a dime.

Totally doable to DIY it, especially if it’s just inaccurate stuff. Use annualcreditreport.com, check all 3 bureaus, and start disputing online. It’s not fun, but it’s freeeee.

Tbh, California has some solid protections. If a company is shady, you can report them to the Department of Justice or even the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau

Yeah i used a local credit repair service out of San Diego. Cost me like $99/month and it took about 6 months to clean up 5 inaccuracies
Honestly they were just sending dispute letters i could’ve done myself.

Credit repair companies are basically glorified email senders charging you for stuff u can do for free. Save your cash. Google “609 letter” and thank me later

DIY is king. Credit Karma, Experian, and even your bank probably give u free access to disputes now. I cleaned up 3 wrong late payments myself in under 2 months. no lawyer, no fees

I'm like 6 months into using a service out of Sacramento. They've been chill. Removed 1 bogus medical bill so far. Still waiting on two others. Not fast, but it's progress.
