unpaid medical bill sent to Sequium Asset Solutions – any advice?

I just checked my credit report and saw that sequium asset solutions has placed a collection account on it for an old medical bill i don’t even remember getting. sideways the balance is $275 and it’s listed as closed. also i never received any calls or letters from them so this was a total surprise for me. I tried calling them but i either get a busy tone or an automated message.
has anyone dealt with sequium before? how do I go about resolving this?
as i’m willing to pay if it helps my credit but i don’t want to do anything that might make things worse

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this—it’s definitely stressful to find a collection account you weren’t aware of, especially for an old medical bill. Document Everything keep records of all your communication with Sequium, including dates, times, and what was discussed. If you’re having trouble reaching them by phone, try sending a certified letter with a return receipt to ensure they receive it.

Check the statute of limitations look up the statute of limitations for medical debt in your state. If the debt is too old they may not be able to legally collect on it, and you might not even need to pay it.

Be cautious sometimes making a payment can restart the clock on the debt.

Send them a debt validation letter first to make sure the debt is legit and if they cant verify it you can dispute it with the credit bureaus
remember dont pay until you have clear proof.
