settling with rausch sturm – what should I expect?

I recently found out that my old credit card debt was sold to portfolio recovery and now rausch sturm is handling the collections. i received a letter from them stating that they are attempting to collect on behalf of PRA. as i’d like to settle this debt but I’m not sure what my options are. has anyone had experience negotiating with rausch sturm?

You're in a good position to negotiate since you’re willing to settle. Rausch Sturm is a law firm that handles collections for Portfolio Recovery Associates (PRA), so they might be more aggressive than a typical collection agency. Here’s what you can do to approach this strategically:
  1. Check the Debt’s Validity
  2. Negotiate a Settlement
  3. Avoid Restarting the Statute of Limitations
  4. Watch for Lawsuit Threats

If it turns out to be a legitimate debt, you may be able to negotiate a 'pay-for-delete' agreement though not all collection agencies agree to this. You can also try a goodwill letter if you’ve already paid it.

You can definitely negotiate! start by offering a lump sum settlement and aim for 30 to 50% of the balance or request a payment plan in writing. Whatever you agree on get it in writing before paying to avoid issues later

You can definitely negotiate with them try offering a settlement for less and request a pay-for-delete if possible. Just make sure to get everything in writing before making any payments.
