How should I handle a debt from MediCredit?

Hey, everyone. I just got a letter from MediCredit about a medical debt from a hospital visit. The amount is $1,200, and it feels sudden since I haven’t had much communication from the hospital about it being sent to collections.

What’s the best way to deal with this? Should I try negotiating directly with MediCredit, or is there a way to settle without it affecting my credit score? I’ve heard about “pay to delete” agreements. Does anyone know if MediCredit honors those? Would love to hear your advice.

Medical collections that have been paid will no longer show up on credit reports. Additionally, unpaid medical collection debt won’t appear for a year, instead of the previous six months.

You can try negotiating with MediCredit for a lower amount or a “pay to delete” agreement but get everything in writing.

Set up a payment plan directly with MediCredit if a lump sum isn’t feasible. This can help you manage the debt without further hurting your credit.

Send a goodwill letter to Medicredit explaining your situation and requesting removal after payment. Its a long shot but sometimes it works, especially if its your first collection.

Just ignore them. Even though they sent a letter to your home. Even then, they could have the wrong person or address. Debt collectors are known for being sloppy when verifying details.
