Caine and Weiner- Disputing an Open Collection

Hi guys, I used to have an auto insurance company around 2 years back. I forgot about them until I pulled a copy of my credit report this weekend and discovered that I have an open collection from Caine and Weiner worth $321.43.

The notification claims that I owe this amount for a lapsed policy. I clearly remember canceling my policy with this insurance company when I bought a used car and switched to a different provider that offered a lower rate for my older vehicle. I am certain that I completed the cancellation process online and even have a vague memory of receiving a confirmation email.

I need to check if I have the receipts tho.. Anyway, there is no way I am paying for an inactive policy. Is there a basis to dispute the collection with Caine & Weiner?

If they offer a pay for delete arrangement, make sure to get it in writing preferably in an email before making any payment. While they're not obligated to delete it, if they agree to do so, I will definitely take advantage of that opportunity.

That really frustrating especially when u took the right steps by canceling your policy and switching providers. It worth reaching out to both the insurance company and caine and weiner to clarify things. Start by checking your old emails and any other records you might have that confirm the cancellation. Once its done whatever proof u can contact caine and weiner and dispute the collection.

Since they’re legally required to provide documentation of debt they should be able to provide evidence that the policy was still active at the time they claim or they should remove the charge if they can’t.
