I recently started a small business and need reliable tax software to help with filing deductions, and record keeping. Since I don’t have an accountant I’m looking for something user friendly but powerful enough to handle business expenses and tax reporting.

For those of you running a business:
  • What tax software do you use, and what do you like about it?
  • Are there any must-have features, like automation or integration with bookkeeping tools?
  • Have you ever run into accuracy or compliance issues when using tax software?

FreshBooks is a great choice if you need robust invoicing features along with tax tracking.

It’s especially useful for freelancers and service based businesses but it might not be the best fit for everyone.

Congrats on starting your business!
for tax software QuickBooks and TurboTax are solid choices as both are user friendly and handle deductions well. if automation and integration matter then Xero or FreshBooks might be worth checking out. accuracy issues are rare but always double check numbers before filing.
what type of business are you running?

Running a small business comes with enough challenges as taxes shouldnt be one of them. I have had a good experience with QuickBooks Self Employed since its easy to use but still covers all the essentials like deductions and expense tracking. Automation is a game-changer especially for keeping everything organized. Have you looked into options that sync with your bookkeeping system?

I run a small business too and TurboTax Self-Employed has been a lifesaver! Super userfriendly and guides you through deductions and syncs with QuickBooks for easy record keeping. If automation is a must then i must say QuickBooks + TurboTax or H&R Block are solid options. Just make sure to double check entries...no software is perfect and IRS audits are no joke

I run a small business and use TurboTax Self-Employed as its easy to use and walks you through deductions step by step. If you want something that tracks expenses automatically then i suggests that QuickBooks Self-Employed is a solid option since it syncs with your bank and even connects to TurboTax. TaxSlayer is a more affordable alternative with good reporting tools.
Your Biggest must haves: expense tracking, tax deduction help, and integration with bookkeeping tools
i havent had any major accuracy issues but I always double check my numbers before filing.

I once tried tax software and it was like being stuck in a never ending escape room with every form feeling like an unsolvable riddle.

Next year i might just hand my mom a shoebox of receipts and pretend that’s all the diligence i need

QuickBooks Self Employed is pretty solid for freelancers and small biz owners. It tracks expenses, auto-categorizes stuff and has mileage tracking. But heads up the tax filing part is separate unless you get the TurboTax bundle.

If u r running a business then look for software with automation features like expense tracking, receipt scanning and estimated quarterly tax calculations. Xero is a solid choice if u need something user friendly.

TaxSlayer has been my go to for the last two years. Its cheaper than TurboTax and has a solid UI. Just make sure to double check your deductions bcz it sometimes doesnt catch all business expenses

I used to do my taxes manually until i realized I was leaving so much money on the table. Switched to TaxJar and QuickBooks and the automation alone saved me hours of work

For S-Corps or LLCs, TaxAct is a good option. It's cheaper than TurboTax Business but still gives you all the forms you need. Just be prepared for a bit of a learning curve if u r new to taxes

I’ve been using QuickBooks Self-Employed for two years now. Super intuitive, links directly with my bank accounts and categorizes expenses automatically. Helps with quarterly taxes too. Highly recommend for solo entrepreneurs or freelancers.

Okay, so I use FreshBooks and it's amazing for keeping track of client invoices and business expenses. It's more geared towards service based businesses but it has really helped me streamline everything.

I used TurboTax Business last year and it tried to upsell me on every screen. Felt like i was being sold a timeshare instead of filing taxes

Honestly i tried QuickBooks and got overwhelmed. Switched to FreshBooks and never looked back. It’s simpler, more visual and makes invoicing stupidly easy
great for solo biz owners who hate spreadsheets like me

I went with FreeTaxUSA last year because I’m broke and my business was barely a business lol. It was surprisingly solid. No bells and whistles, but it worked.

If you're running an LLC and doing your own books, TaxSlayer has a pretty decent interface and handles Schedule C like a champ. u can import a lot of 1099s automatically.

I use Xero with Gusto for payroll. Then export my year-end stuff to a CPA. Xero’s UI is weird at first but crazy powerful once u get it.
