Best free tax software for filing any good

With tax season coming up, I’m looking for the best free tax software to file my return this year. My situation is pretty simple—W-2 income, a few deductions, and no business income so I don’t really need all the advanced features that come with paid software.

I’ve heard of a few free options but I want to make sure I choose one that’s actually reliable easy to use and doesn’t surprise me with hidden fees. Are there any truly free tax filing services you’d recommend? Would love to hear your experiences!

The only tax software that’s genuinely free and backed by the IRS is Free File. Every other option no matter how much they advertise "free" filing, usually comes with some kind of catch whether it's hidden fees, upgrade prompts, or extra charges for certain forms.

If you’re looking to file without paying a dime, Free File is your safest bet.

I had a great experience with TurboTax Free Edition last year! My taxes were similar ....W-2 income and basic deductions and it was genuinely easy and free. Just keep an eye out for prompts to upgrade so you stay on the free track. I hope yours goes smoothly too

I've been down the rabbit hole of "free" tax software before...sometimes it feels like ordering guac and then discovering it's extra at checkout! TurboTax Free Edition is pretty solid for simple W-2 income and they won’t sneakily charge you unless you get fancy. Cash App Taxes is also legit free and wont pull the ol' bait-and-switch.
Used it myself last year and my wallet stayed safe and sound. Good luck dodging those hidden fees!

I’ve used FreeTaxUSA and Cash App Taxes as both are legit free with no sneaky upsells. IRS Free File is another solid option if u qualify. Just avoid TurboTax Free Edition bcz its only free if your return is super basic.

I have used FreeTaxUSA and Cash App Taxes in the past, and both were solid options with no surprise fees. If your return is simple then TurboTax Free Edition or H&R Block Free Online might work but they try to upsell if you need extra forms. IRS Free File is another legit choice if u qualify based on income. Just double check whats actually free before u start

I would go with Cash App Taxes since it’s totally free, no sneaky fees. FreeTaxUSA is solid but charges for state returns. TurboTax and H&R Block work too but theyll try to upsell you.

If your adjusted gross income is under $79k then the IRS Free File program is your best bet. It partners with actual tax software providers and some of them offer truly free federal AND state filing. Just dont accidentally click on a paid upgrade

If your income is under $79,000 then IRS Free File is a solid choice. It links you to partnered services that are actually free. Just make sure to read the fine print bcz some options have state filing fees

I totally get the stress of picking the right one. I used Cash App Taxes last year and was pleasantly surprised. 100% free no gimmicks and i got my refund in like 10 days

H&R Block has a free version that’s actually decent for simple returns. It’s more user friendly than most and they won’t try to trick you into upgrading unless U have more complicated tax situations

I get your concern. I used TurboTax’s free option last year and ended up paying $60 because i had a student loan interest deduction. Felt like a scam

If u r comfortable doing your taxes solo, the IRS Free File program is a great starting point. Just make sure you choose a provider that matches your income bracket and state.

Check out FreeTaxUSA. It’s free for federal filing and the state filing is cheap. It doesn’t do sneaky upsells like TurboTax. Been using it for years without issue

TurboTax Free Edition is great… until you realize it's only free if u have exactly one W-2 and literally no other deductions. Tried to claim student loan interest and BAM, got paywalled.
