833-735-1894 Is this a scam?

I got a call today claiming to be from my bank’s fraud detection team, asking me to call back at 833-735-1894. The voicemail mentioned suspicious activity on my debit card, but this number isn’t listed on my bank’s official website, which makes me suspicious.

I haven’t noticed any unauthorized transactions on my account yet, but I’m hesitant to call back without verifying. Has anyone else received calls from this number? Could this actually be a legitimate fraud alert line?

I’m thinking of calling the number on the back of my debit card instead to confirm with my bank. Would that be the safest way to handle this? Let me know your thoughts or experiences.

That number looks like its used by different banks for their fraud hotline. If its a small credit union, they’ve probably outsourced it to a third party.

Never call them by their given number. Always use the number on your card or go directly to the credit union’s site (type it in yourself) to find contact info.

Call the number on your debit card to verify the issue directly with your bank. Avoid calling unverified numbers, as it could be a scam attempt. Always stay cautious

This is a legit number that has called me any time there is suspicious looking activity from my debit card. I tried to purchase a knife from a Chinese based company over the weekend and my card was declined. They just called to ask if it was indeed me trying to make the purchase (because the company is based in China) or if perhaps my card had been jeopardized. The call comes up on caller ID as "potential spam", but it is a third party company that handles my small town independent bank's (and many other's) potential fraud and debit card issues.

Yep the number on the back of your debit card is always the safest bet. Never trust a number from a voicemail unless you’ve confirmed it yourself

I work in banking and this is standard advice: always use the number on your card or the bank’s official website. Scammers are pros at faking legit-looking numbers.

That number might connect to real fraud departments sometimes but scammers can spoof legit ones too
Better not to risk it calling your bank directly is definitely the right move.

You can also check your online banking some banks post fraud alerts right in your account.

It’s a lot safer than trusting some random voicemail

Even if it ends up being a legit fraud alert line, always verify first. Social engineering is no joke, and scammers are getting more convincing every day.

Anything that kicks off with call us immediately about suspicious activity… instantly gets the side-eye from me

If the number’s not on the official website, assume it’s sketchy
No legit bank expects you to trust a random voicemail without checking first.

I got a call like this once from a number I didn’t recognize. Turns out it was a scam, and they tried to get me to give them my account info

Yeah, got the same call last week. Called my bank directly they said it wasn’t them. Safe bet is never call back unknown numbers, even if they say they’re fraud protection

If the number’s not on your bank’s website then don’t trust it. Scammers spoof numbers all the time. Call the number on the back of your card

Absolutely call the number on the back of your card. Never return a call from a number that’s not officially listed. This is textbook phishing scam stuff.

Same thing happened to me last week. The voicemail even used my bank’s name, but the number was off. I called the actual fraud department and yup...scam. They hadn’t tried to contact me at all.
