Anyone have any experience working at a Credit Repair company?

I’ve been offered a job at a company where my friend works they deal with tradelines credit sweeps, and general credit repair services. He mentioned they’re getting more inquiries than he can handle so they’re looking to bring on another person. According to him, the income potential is really high and he’s strongly encouraging me to join.

The thing is, I’m not very familiar with the credit repair industry especially when it comes to what’s actually legal and what might fall into a gray area. I want to make sure I fully understand what I’d be getting into before making any decisions.

If anyone here has experience or can shed some light on the ins and outs of this line of work

Honestly i’ve made more in 6 months in credit repair than i did in 2 years at my corporate gig. But i stick to disputing errors, nothing more.

Yeah i've done it. 80% sales, 20% pretending you know FCRA inside out. Most of your time is spent convincing people to pay $100/month to send dispute letters they could Google for free.

Hey maybe you can be the one person at the company who actually does things right. Educate the clients, build real trust. That’s rare and valuable

As an accountant i’ve had to clean up after some of these companies. Tradelines and CPNs can be seriously illegal if used incorrectly. Be cautious

Mortgage broker here. I’ve seen a lot of clients come in with artificially inflated scores from these services… and then their loans fall apart mid-process because the bureaus catch on. Be careful..it might feel good short term but could be messing with people’s futures.

I’ve been doing credit repair for 6 years. Done right it’s legit and helpful. Done wrong, it’s shady af. Stick with factual disputes, don’t fake stuff and stay away from anything that smells like fraud.

Worked at one for about a year. Some parts were legit (disputing inaccuracies, credit education). Other parts? Tradelines and credit sweeps can easily cross into sketchy/legal gray areas depending on how it's done. Know what you're signing up for

Credit repair is mostly about knowing how to navigate the system it's probably 80% loopholes and 20% actual law
It really comes down to how comfortable you are working those angles. Some people thrive in that gray area while others get anxious and prefer to play it safe

Some people are great at maneuvering through the gray areas while others feel uneasy and would rather stick to the safer more straightforward path

I used to work for a legit credit repair firm for about 2 years. The key is knowing the difference between dispute resolution and credit sweeps. The latter can get sketchy fast especially if they r filing police reports claiming identity theft just to remove tradelines. That’s a hard no from me legally speaking.

Before diving into anything, make sure you read up on the Credit Repair Organizations Act (CROA). It lays out strict guidelines about what you’re allowed to say, promise, and charge when offering credit repair services
It’s not something to take lightly understanding the rules upfront can save you a lot of trouble down the road.

Authorized user tradelines are perfectly legal but they need to be disclosed correctly.

Some folks use them purely to rent out their credit profiles for a quick buck but that can backfire fast if it’s not handled the right way

They always hype it up with “the income potential is huge” right before you find yourself cold calling 400 people a week just to scrape together $300 a month

I did this for about three months, and the moment I started asking questions about whether their credit sweep template was even legal, the company ghosted me. If something feels off, trust your gut it usually knows.

I totally get where you’re coming from. Some opportunities sound so good it’s hard not to jump in but it’s a good sign that you’re asking questions first. That kind of caution usually pays off.

I used to be the one tracking down folks with charge-offs then I switched sides and joined a “credit repair” company that showed them all the tricks to avoid people like me

If they’re telling you to say things like “we can delete anything from your credit report,” that’s a major red flag. No legit company can guarantee that so it’s best to walk away.
