Got a Letter from Wells Fargo About Identity Theft Protection — Anyone Else?

I just received a letter in the mail from Wells Fargo offering me free identity theft protection services. The letter mentioned something about my personal information possibly being exposed and that they’re giving me a complimentary membership to some identity monitoring program (I think it’s through Experian or something similar?).

Has anyone else gotten a letter like this recently?
I’m trying to figure out:
  • Is this legit or could it be a scam?
  • What triggered this was there a breach or something?
  • Is it actually worth signing up for the protection they’re offering?
I haven’t noticed any weird activity on my accounts, but I’m feeling a little paranoid now. I don’t usually trust this kind of stuff at face value, but it did have my name and address, and looked pretty official.

Any insight if you’ve dealt with something similar, or if you know what’s going on with Wells Fargo right now.

Yeah i got that letter last week. It looked legit, had my correct name and partial account number. Signed up for the Experian thing .... it’s just basic monitoring, nothing fancy. I think they r trying to cover their butts after a recent data exposure.

Totally get why u r feeling paranoid. I had a similar letter from Capital One a few years ago and my anxiety was through the roof. I signed up just to ease my mind, and nothing ever happened..but better safe than sorry.

Yeah i work in cybersecurity and this one’s actually legit. WF had a data exposure a few months back... they’re quietly cleaning it up with these offers.

Yup, got mine yesterday. It’s from Wells Fargo, and it mentions Experian’s IdentityWorks. Apparently something got exposed, but it’s vague as hell. Typical WF move 🙄

Bro I threw it in the trash. Wells Fargo sends me so much mail I don't even open half of it. Now i’m wondering if i should go dumpster diving lol

Yup got the same letter yesterday. It’s from Wells Fargo, offering Experian IdentityWorks for free for a year. Pretty sure it’s related to some data breach but they’re vague as hell🕵️‍♂️

I never trust these letters. Could be real, could be a scam piggybacking off something real. I just froze my credit last year instead.

Honestly… i shredded it. Didn’t look fake, but these days, i assume everything is a scam unless proven otherwise. Watching my credit manually for now

yeah I got one too. Thought it was junk mail at first then realized it had my real name and part of my account number. Definitely sketchy feeling even though it looked official.

The Experian plan is usually $9.99/month. It’s a decent deal if you don’t already have identity monitoring. I signed up and canceled after 12 months.

Same here! It’s from Experian IdentityWorks. I checked the URL and it was legit. Still changed a few passwords just in case 🤷‍♀️

Everything is a scam until proven otherwise. i called Wells Fargo directly to confirm...turns out it’s real. But i still dont trust Experian. One data breach offering protection from another data breach? what a time to be alive

I used to work in fraud prevention. These letters usually follow a data sharing event or internal incident. If you got one it’s worth enrolling..but also freeze your credit if you haven’t already. It’s free now and that’s better protection.

Infosec here 👋 This is a common practice after data incidents. If you’re worried, check haveibeenpwned.com and monitor your credit. Free monitoring is better than nothing but set up credit freezes too if u r really worried.

Bro Wells Fargo and data breaches go together like peanut butter and lawsuits. 😒 i’d assume something shady happened and they r doing damage control. Sign up for the monitoring but stay alert.

Yep got it too. Honestly, at this point i just assume my data is in a Russian spreadsheet somewhere. Still, free ID protection? i’ll take it
